Not your traditional self help book
As I dove into this book, I was thrilled to discover its unique perspective! Unlike your typical self-help guide, it doesn't just hand out specific practical tips. In today's world, we're obsessed with the idea that reading self-help books will magically improve us, but the truth is, it's all about ACTION! The steps we take, or don't take, are what truly propel us forward. We often hold back, thinking we don't "know enough," but the key is to stick to your goals and embrace failure as a learning opportunity. The more we shy away from failure, the more we hinder our growth.
Growth happens in those uncomfortable spaces, and this book speaks to the reader like a wise mentor who's been through it all.
“A system is something you do on a regular basis that increases your odds of happiness in the long run.”
This quote underscores the power of creating and sticking to a system. Even the smallest efforts, when turned into habits, shape who we are!
“The smartest system for discerning your best path to success involves trying lots of different things—sampling, if you will.”
Understanding that we won't find the answers on the first, second, or even fiftieth try is part of the journey. The more open and comfortable we are with making mistakes and learning from them, the closer we get to discovering what truly works.
“Every skill you acquire doubles your odds of success.” Skill stacking is essential! Why limit yourself to just one thing when you can expand your skill set in any field?
Invest in your education—not necessarily by spending lots of money, but by exploring resources like library books or audiobooks. Commit to finishing what you start. Too often, we get stuck in the "planning" phase and lose steam before we even begin.
“You don’t have to be outstanding at any one skill; you just need to be competent in a variety of things that work well together.”
This fantastic quote reminds us that perfection isn't the goal. Stay curious and keep learning, whether you're in school or not. The world is always changing, and new knowledge is constantly emerging. Embrace each failure as a stepping stone, celebrate the decisions you make, and analyze what might be missing. That's where the magic happens!
My therapeutic approach
In therapy, if you feel stifled by life without a clear direction, yet full of dreams and aspirations, my aim is to move you beyond the "planning phase" and into the next stage, which involves failing—and failing significantly—because that's where the keys to fulfillment are hidden. Confidence is developed in the small moments when we allow ourselves the gentleness to fail.
